Awesome Sunflower

Last night, just after Bernd got home, the doorbell rang. Our doorbell almost never rings. Bernd said, “What the heck?”

It was a woman who said she goes by our house every morning on her way to work. She wanted to take some photos of the Sunflower by the garage and wanted our permission. We gave it gladly and it got me to thinking maybe I should take some photos also.

It is a truly awesome sunflower. Probably eight feet tall with the leaves falling very neatly around it. The leaves are huge. Bigger than a serving platter. The flower is really nice too. Very uniform. I take no credit for it. I did not plant it there. I figure a bird planted it. All I have contributed to its awesomeness is water.

It was not my intention to have a sunflower right there. I wanted that flower bed for wildflowers and marigolds and violas and the like. But it is so nice that I might put a couple seeds there next year.

I think this sunflower is a one in a million. We may never again have a sunflower as nice as this one. But that doesn’t matter. And you never know, one day there might be one even nicer.
