Every now and then, I’ll run across an article online about what is the right way to orient a roll of toilet paper on the dispenser. As if there might be a wrong way. I mean, come one. You put it on there the way you like it.
But apparently, there are some people who do actually think there is a wrong way and a right way. We had some people visiting once that turned the toilet paper roll in the guest bath around the other way from the way we like it. Of course, it could just have been a need to control things because those same people thought it was okay to change the settings on our heating/cooling system thermostat.
The article I saw recently said it would settle the issue once and for all. As with most online articles that claim to do that for absolute certain, this one did not actually settle the issue. Well, not to my mind anyway. And I frequently wonder what happened to actually getting to the point. Yes, I do digress. But never for five or six pages, and then never actually get to the point I said I was going to make.
The author of that article asserted that when a toilet paper roll is in the over position (see photo below), you handle it less while using it and it is therefore healthier (read that more sanitary). Come on really. It’s not like you’re going to use in the most sanitary of places.

The author thought that when it is in the under position (see featured photo at the top), you have to touch it more to turn it and pull the paper off.
Speaking as someone who has tried it both ways, I do not touch and over roll any less than I touch and under roll.
So which way do we install our toilet paper rolls? Under, of course. And it has the added benefit of keeping playful cats from totally unspooling an entire roll of toilet paper. In the under position, all they do is continually roll it up.
To me that is the best way to do it. Not right or wrong. No need for debate.
