ZenJems Revisited

I’ve said before that Bernd loves working with wire. He’s bent and soldered together some awesome frames for cabochons and drusy crystals. But he also makes what we call ZenJems pendants.

He’s developed a number of motifs over the years. I think his favorite is probably what we call Spiralz. Although, Streamerz would be a close second.

Spiralz are, as you might imagine, pendants that feature spirals. Mostly they will have two spirals with one smaller than the other. They might be continuous or have “stems” that are joined at the top.

Streamerz are reminiscent of ribbons hanging from the bottom of helium balloons. They are playful and joyful and fun. There are also Curves, YinYangz, Circlez and Dropz.

I think that what appeals to Bernd about his ZenJems pendants is that you can make them in a day. Kind of how I like making earrings because they mostly only require a half an hour of effort.

Some of the other pendants that Bernd has made have required a couple of days of planning and several days of execution.

It’s difficult to recover that much labor in a sterling silver item. So mostly, he does it for the love of creating something beautiful.

That’s a good enough reason.
